a) Executive Education Programme on Project Management for Complex Infrastructure Projects
The Tamil Nadu Infrastructure Development Board launched a two day Executive Education Programme on Project Management for Complex Infrastructure Projects in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras on 7th July, 2014. The workshop was inaugurated by Thiru Mohan Verghese Chunkath, I.A.S, Chief Secretary to the Government of Tamil Nadu. Thiru S. Krishnan, I.A.S., Principal Secretary, Planning & Development / CEO, TNIDB, Bhaskar Ramamurthi, Director, IIT Madras and Dr. Ashwin Mahalingam, Assistant Professor, Building Technology and Construction Management, IIT Madras were also present at workshop.
The workshop was the first of the series of three workshops that would be conducted by IIT Madras. About 70 senior engineers from different Government Departments/Public Agencies participated in the workshop. The course covered an overview of project management; contract management; project planning and Control; Usage of Information Technology for Effective Project Management; Advances in Engineering Technology and Materials; and Managing Public Private Partnerships.
The participants were awarded a certificate from the Centre for Continuing Education, IIT Madras. Thiru K. Shanmugam, Secretary to Government, Finance Department, Thiru S. Krishnan, Principal Secretary, Planning & Development / CEO, TNIDB and Tmt. V.G. Bhooma, IRPS, Registrar, IIT Madras handed out the certificates to the participants.
b) 3rd Workshop for Project Implementation Officials
The Board conducted the 3rd workshop for project implementation officials on 09.07.2014. About 37 government officials from various Government Departments and Public Agencies from the Health and Education sector participated in the day long workshop. In addition to an overview of the Strategic Vision for Infrastructure Development in the State, the role of TNIDB and its processes, procurement planning and process, the participants were acquainted with innovative procurement practices undertaken in the health and education sectors.
The next workshop with a focus on agriculture sector is tentatively scheduled during the last week of July.
